Charity Event, £10,000 for Children’s Hospice!

A wet and wacky It’s a Knockout charity event held Sunday Sept 26 in Shrewsbury was a raving success according to the Shropshire Star. The 11 teams taking part have hopefully raised in excess of £10,000 for the local Hope House Children’s Hospice.

It was the first of it’s kind in the area and attended by 100′s of supporters, the local Mayor and the football team’s mascots ‘Lenny the Lion’ and ‘Teddy’. The organisers have said the event’s success has suggested this should be an annual charity fund raiser… fingers crossed the ‘It’s A Knockout’ fun bug is forever catching on. Long live Its A Knockout !

Kind-hearted Competitors Raise £12,000 for the Prince’s Trust

DOZENS of kind-hearted competitors rolled around in foam, got soaking wet and daubed themselves with blue paint as they landed an It’s A Knockout blow for charity.

They were competing in an It’s a Knockout event held in Royal Sands to raise funds for the Prince’s Trust, a national youth charity offering practical and financial support to youngsters. The event was organised by Avon and Somerset Constabulary, and saw competitors from the police, Marks and Spencers, DHL and North Somerset Council’s foster care service dress up as smurfs and nuns to battle through a range of inflatable challenges.

The event raised more than £12,000 for the charity, and organiser PC Lee Paine said: We had 12 teams, who all put in an amazing performance. Everyone raised loads of money through sponsorship and bucket shaking on the day, along with contributions from companies selling food, photographs and doing face painting on the day.

“We’re really grateful for the tremendous support which helped us reach this fantastic total for such a worthy cause. Thank you all so much.”

‘It’s a Royal Knockout’ is Back !!

According to the ‘News Biscuit” – the BBC are considering a restage of the infamous ‘It’s a Royal Knockout’ as a fundraiser for the Duchess of York?

Here’ an extract but read it in full here >

Buckingham Palace has today announced plans to reprise the one-off ‘It’s a Royal Knockout’ tournament with all proceeds going to their favourite charity case, the Duchess of York.

‘If you are lucky enough to be born into privilege,’ said Prince Edward, the brains behind the original 1987 fundraiser, ‘then I think it’s beholden on you to try and give something back. Mummy really wants to give Fergie back, so fingers crossed we can raise enough to get her back on her feet and out of our hair for good.’

The evening’s entertainment will kick-off with a twist on the traditional greasy-pole challenge. Journalists from The Sun, The Mirror, The Mail and The Express will dress up as Arab sheikhs and attempt to gain access to Prince Andrew by running through a treacherous oil slick while attached to bungee ropes and delivering £500,000 in a briefcase to the Duchess of York…. more here >

It’s a Royal Knockout was a British slapstick television gameshow that aired in 1987, based on the original It’s a Knockout (the British version of Jeux Sans Frontieres) but including members of the British Royal Family.

The programme featured Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the Duke and Duchess of York as team captains, each representing a chosen charity and dressed in novelty costumes, and was hosted by Stuart Hall. BBC Radio 1 was there with Mike Smith doing the Breakfast Show and Steve Wright was there with The Radio 1 Roadshow.

Corporate Team Building the New Way!

Its a Knockout Team Building Activities

Team Building Fun!

If you have ever been on a team building event for work then you’ll know they can traditionally be tedious, dull and hardly inspire you to greater things.

But office/work team building doesn’t have to be like that… a series of boring paper exercises, building a bridge out of straws or scribbling keywords on a Nobo whiteboard!!!

NO, NO, NO … BECAUSE TEAM BUILDING CAN ACTUALLY BE SO MUCH FUN – YOU’LL FALL ABOUT LAUGHING…. read on my corporate friends!

Wake Up, Go Crazy with Fun Team Building Programmes

As a person who has been on far too many management team building and corporate team activity days I can say that 90% of the time I came back to the office cynical, manipulated, tired and bored or a mixture of them all. I lost count of the times I said to colleagues “what a waste of time”!! And I heard others say that too!

So if your staff are thinking it – then it’s probably true. So please wake up to a new breed of corporate event management and team building that are much more sports in nature. It WILL get the staff laughing, motivated and talking positively for many months to come…. for sure.

Team Building Has Changed For Good

Corporate games, team building activities and leadership exercises of old are dead! – People learn much better in a relaxed and fun environment. So all manner of group games and team bonding activities have been designed around crazy antics and fun day events such as “It’s A Knockout” games or Outward Bound courses. And I know what I’d rather do… have some fun outdoors!

Teams just love Its A KnockoutIf you do, you can expect a lot of running around, shouting, laughing, and falling over, getting wet, foamed up, crashes, silly costumes…. and more falling over! But it can have its serious side in that these are team games with a purpose to succeed, show leadership, communication skills and use both physical and mental strength. You’ll observe your teams in ways that will not be observed in the workplace and with all that frivolity about you’ll see team bonding like no other… it’ll be a team love fest and they be begging for more! Honestly.

Making Team Activities Fun

Yes, as the corporate event planner you want to ensure your team day offers a series of interesting team building ice breakers, problem solving games, group activities, motivational games and team bonding activities… but hey, let’s make it enjoyable. We are not here to punish the workforce or turn them into robots right? We want to motivate and stimulate them – the rewards of which are well documented – a keener, happier workforce is a more efficient and productive workforce… in essence the whole point of team building programmes.

Say NO MORE to indoor team building exercises in the workplace or office – GET OUTDOORS! Book an It’s A Knockout Games Event and you’ll see the staff’s eyes light up. When did that happen with overhead projector?

Plan Your ‘NEW’ Corporate Event

If you are a corporate event planner or team leader looking to do something new and fun for your team morale or leadership training then start Googling key phrases like: “teamwork games, corporate event ideas, fun team building activities, corporate fun days or corporate team building activities”… there are loads of ideas beyond the ‘brainstorm’ and PowerPoint lists… As the team organiser if you CANNOT be motivated to do something different then how can you expect your team to be?

Teams needed for a Knockout Time

Published Stamford Mercury: Sun Dec 05 07:00:00 GMT 2010

FANCY having a laugh with your mates by playing It’s a Knockout- style games while raising money for good causes?

That’s exactly what you and your friends could be doing if you take part in the Rotary Club of Stamford St Martin’s fundraising event next summer, which will be based on the popular game show from the ’70s and ’80s. It will take place on Sunday, May 22 2011, at Stamford Rugby Club on Hambleton Road.

Fun Fun Fun all the Way !

Although the activities for the day are still to be finalised, they could include a human washing machine where people are flung round a massive spongy replica. Others may include hurling wet sponges at each other using a specially designed bungee device or trying to knock your opponents over with a huge soft wrecking ball. There is also a football shoot out with the chance to score extra points if the ball passes through the “bonus holes” and the chance to help a giant chicken collect as many eggs as it can while dodging straw bales.

Charity Knockout Event

Each team needs to raise at least £400, which is only £40 each for a team of 10. Participants must be at least 16. Registration requires a deposit of £150 and can be done by visiting www.iako.co.uk. Spectators are also catered for with a bar, barbecue and entertainment, which is yet to be finalised.

It’s a Knockout challenge in St Albans

BRAVE contestants will be leaping into gunge pits and grappling with huge inflatables in an It’s A Knockout challenge in St Albans later this month.

Hosted by children’s television presenter Jamie Rickers, the event, which has nearly 20 teams of ten entered already, will raise money for the National Association for Colitis and Chrohn’s disease and other charities.

Publicist Anna Rowntree said: “The hilarious games will include wet and slippery slides, bubble pools, and penguin races.

“Will a team of contestants from BBC 1’s Total Wipeout show be beaten? Armed with individual mascots, cheerleaders and fancy dress, other teams will compete against each other for knockout glory.”

Although the event on Sunday, July 25, at Old Albanians sports ground off Harpenden Road is almost full, entries are welcome on the day from teams of children, who can compete free.  Spectators are welcome from 11am to 4pm.

In order to raise money for MNDA (the Motor Neurone Disease Association), teams of Lifeguards, Youth Workers and ‘Sexy Rock Chicks’ from Beverley Leisure Centre pitched battle with each other, while the children that attended ensured everyone enjoyed a thorough soaking with water bombs and buckets.  The afternoon concluded with a water fight between the Youth Workers and the children – with the children winning hands down!

Hopefully, once all the money is in, £663 will have been raised. Thanks to all who contributed.
