Wacky Its A Knockout Charity Challenge

Gwent builders set for wacky charity challenge

published by South Wales Argus 13th May 2010

A TEAM of builders are gearing up for a range of wacky challenges when they take part in a charity fundraiser. The team from Hands on Building Services, based in Bassaleg, Newport, will take part in It’s a Knockout on June 6.

This has been organised by St David’s Foundation Hospice Care and will raise funds for the charity. Teams will compete against each other at the Welfare Grounds in Rogerstone and will win extra points for being the best-dressed, best joker, best-behaved and for the team which raises the most money. The winning team will be awarded the It’s a Knockout Trophy.

Sarah Thomas from Hands On Building Services said: “All our team have family in the area who have benefited from St Davids Foundation and the brilliant work it does in the past. We are all so very aware, as our families grow, that we need to support local organisations like St Davids Foundation so that they may continue to help the people we love in the present and the future. “

VILLAGERS out at Ancaster have taken the lead in trying to raise thousands of pounds to help children with cancer.

It’s a Knockout 2010 will be held on Saturday, June 5 at Kesteven Rugby Football Club. This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better than last, with more teams, games and side stalls.
The event was first held last year, with Ancaster villagers enthusiastically signing up to raise funds for CLIC Sargent.

Angela Aspiotis has been leading the charge in Ancaster.

She said: “ Once again, the people of Ancaster have got behind me to support the It’s A Knockout Challenge.

“Last year we raised over £3000, and this year we would like to beat that.

We have entered three teams, Ancaster Pride Originals, Ancaster Pride Ladies Lionesses and youth team The Lost Boys. “We also have Molly’s cheerleaders aged six to nine. A day for all the family is planned, with a tombola, cake and home produce stalls and a raffle. The top raffle prize will be a Nintendo Wii with Wii Fit and Sports Resort. Children from Ancaster Primary School are also busy making flags and banners to support the villagers on the day.

Angela said: “People of all ages are helping in some way. We are all looking forward to a good, old-fashioned family, fun day out, showing true community spirit.”
