Kind-hearted Competitors Raise £12,000 for the Prince’s Trust

DOZENS of kind-hearted competitors rolled around in foam, got soaking wet and daubed themselves with blue paint as they landed an It’s A Knockout blow for charity.

They were competing in an It’s a Knockout event held in Royal Sands to raise funds for the Prince’s Trust, a national youth charity offering practical and financial support to youngsters. The event was organised by Avon and Somerset Constabulary, and saw competitors from the police, Marks and Spencers, DHL and North Somerset Council’s foster care service dress up as smurfs and nuns to battle through a range of inflatable challenges.

The event raised more than £12,000 for the charity, and organiser PC Lee Paine said: We had 12 teams, who all put in an amazing performance. Everyone raised loads of money through sponsorship and bucket shaking on the day, along with contributions from companies selling food, photographs and doing face painting on the day.

“We’re really grateful for the tremendous support which helped us reach this fantastic total for such a worthy cause. Thank you all so much.”

‘It’s a Royal Knockout’ is Back !!

According to the ‘News Biscuit” – the BBC are considering a restage of the infamous ‘It’s a Royal Knockout’ as a fundraiser for the Duchess of York?

Here’ an extract but read it in full here >

Buckingham Palace has today announced plans to reprise the one-off ‘It’s a Royal Knockout’ tournament with all proceeds going to their favourite charity case, the Duchess of York.

‘If you are lucky enough to be born into privilege,’ said Prince Edward, the brains behind the original 1987 fundraiser, ‘then I think it’s beholden on you to try and give something back. Mummy really wants to give Fergie back, so fingers crossed we can raise enough to get her back on her feet and out of our hair for good.’

The evening’s entertainment will kick-off with a twist on the traditional greasy-pole challenge. Journalists from The Sun, The Mirror, The Mail and The Express will dress up as Arab sheikhs and attempt to gain access to Prince Andrew by running through a treacherous oil slick while attached to bungee ropes and delivering £500,000 in a briefcase to the Duchess of York…. more here >

It’s a Royal Knockout was a British slapstick television gameshow that aired in 1987, based on the original It’s a Knockout (the British version of Jeux Sans Frontieres) but including members of the British Royal Family.

The programme featured Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the Duke and Duchess of York as team captains, each representing a chosen charity and dressed in novelty costumes, and was hosted by Stuart Hall. BBC Radio 1 was there with Mike Smith doing the Breakfast Show and Steve Wright was there with The Radio 1 Roadshow.

Published Stamford Mercury: Sun Dec 05 07:00:00 GMT 2010

FANCY having a laugh with your mates by playing It’s a Knockout- style games while raising money for good causes?

That’s exactly what you and your friends could be doing if you take part in the Rotary Club of Stamford St Martin’s fundraising event next summer, which will be based on the popular game show from the ’70s and ’80s. It will take place on Sunday, May 22 2011, at Stamford Rugby Club on Hambleton Road.

Fun Fun Fun all the Way !

Although the activities for the day are still to be finalised, they could include a human washing machine where people are flung round a massive spongy replica. Others may include hurling wet sponges at each other using a specially designed bungee device or trying to knock your opponents over with a huge soft wrecking ball. There is also a football shoot out with the chance to score extra points if the ball passes through the “bonus holes” and the chance to help a giant chicken collect as many eggs as it can while dodging straw bales.

Charity Knockout Event

Each team needs to raise at least £400, which is only £40 each for a team of 10. Participants must be at least 16. Registration requires a deposit of £150 and can be done by visiting www.iako.co.uk. In order to raise money for MNDA (the Motor Neurone Disease Association), teams of Lifeguards, Youth Workers and ‘Sexy Rock Chicks’ from Beverley Leisure Centre pitched battle with each other, while the children that attended ensured everyone enjoyed a thorough soaking with water bombs and buckets.  The afternoon concluded with a water fight between the Youth Workers and the children – with the children winning hands down!

Hopefully, once all the money is in, £663 will have been raised. Thanks to all who contributed.

A TEAM of builders are gearing up for a range of wacky challenges when they take part in a charity fundraiser. The team from Hands on Building Services, based in Bassaleg, Newport, will take part in It’s a Knockout on June 6.

This has been organised by St David’s Foundation Hospice Care and will raise funds for the charity. It’s A Knockout Raises £3000 for charity

Published by the Gratham Journal on Mon May 17 16:43:20 BST 2010

VILLAGERS out at Ancaster have taken the lead in trying to raise thousands of pounds to help children with cancer.

It’s a Knockout 2010 will be held on Saturday, June 5 at Kesteven Rugby Football Club. This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better than last, with more teams, games and side stalls.
The event was first held last year, with Ancaster villagers enthusiastically signing up to raise funds for CLIC Sargent.

Angela Aspiotis has been leading the charge in Ancaster.

She said: “ Once again, the people of Ancaster have got behind me to support the It’s A Knockout Challenge.

“Last year we raised over £3000, and this year we would like to beat that.

We have entered three teams, Ancaster Pride Originals, Ancaster Pride Ladies Lionesses and youth team The Lost Boys. “We also have Molly’s cheerleaders aged six to nine. A day for all the family is planned, with a tombola, cake and home produce stalls and a raffle. The top raffle prize will be a Nintendo Wii with Wii Fit and Sports Resort. Children from Ancaster Primary School are also busy making flags and banners to support the villagers on the day.

Angela said: “People of all ages are helping in some way. We are all looking forward to a good, old-fashioned family, fun day out, showing true community spirit.”
